Our grid trading feature
SuperTerminal runs a grid on MetaTrader 4, with settings you can change from the dashboard while it runs, a Safeguard that hedges when margin gets tight, and tools to stop or limit the account. It is in beta and intended for demo accounts.
- The grid, its settings and the safeguards all run from one EA on MT4, and most settings can be changed live from the dashboard.
- Safeguard hedges the account when free margin falls to a trigger you set. Auto Recovery is a premium feature.
- Test in the simulator or in a challenge first. The EA is in beta and meant for demo accounts.
What it is
SuperTerminal is an Expert Advisor (EA) for MetaTrader 4. It runs a grid on the pair you attach it to, and it reports the account to your dashboard so you can watch it and change its settings from a browser. Grid trading itself is explained in our grid fundamentals guide. This page is about how ours behaves.
The grid settings
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Enable Grid | Turns the grid on or off |
| Trade Direction | Buy grid or sell grid |
| Lot Size | Size of each grid trade |
| Grid TP | Take-profit of each trade, in pips |
| Grid Separation | Distance in pips between trades |
| No Trading Above or Below Price | Boundaries beyond which no new trades open |
| Order Delay and Spread Limit | Pace of new orders, and a spread above which the EA waits |
Changes made in the dashboard are sent to the EA and applied on its next update, usually within a few seconds, and the dashboard shows when they have been applied.
Safeguard
Safeguard is the account protection layer. You switch it on or off, and you set a Drawdown Trigger: the level of free margin, as a percentage of your balance, at which it acts. When free margin falls to the trigger, Safeguard opens an opposite trade to lock the open exposure, so a runaway move cannot keep draining the account. It then watches the market and closes the hedge once price recovers, restoring the grid's take-profits.
- A higher Drawdown Trigger hedges earlier. A lower one waits for more drawdown first.
- Safeguard Auto Recovery lets Safeguard recover a bad trading day automatically. It is a premium feature.
Other protections
- Profit Off stops the EA once equity reaches a target you set, and can close everything when it does. It locks in a good day.
- Grid Scalp takes profit on the grid's own trades at regular intervals instead of waiting for each take-profit.
- Account Guard applies prop-firm style loss limits to the account: a daily limit and a total limit, with a warning, an order block and a close-out before a limit is reached. You can choose a firm preset or set your own limits.
How to test it safely
- Simulator. Replay real market history with the grid on and see how it behaved, including through the periods that hurt.
- Prop challenge. In a challenge, the grid and Safeguard run on our servers on live prices, with the challenge's loss limits applied. A grid that breaches a limit fails the attempt, which is a useful, honest test.
- A demo account on MT4. Attach the EA, connect the account to the dashboard and watch it for several weeks before drawing conclusions.
Start with a small lot size and wide separation, switch Safeguard on, and set boundaries before you set anything else. Then watch the worst floating loss, not the best day.
Practise on real prices in the iVentureFX Sim, or take on a prop-style challenge with guard rails.
